My Own Little Book Corner

November ended with 9 books completed.   Overall it was an average rating for the books it seems.  There was one that I rated a little below average, 2 a little above and one gem.   Some were recommended by friends and some were recommended by podcasts or book magazines.  5 of the books I borrowed from the library, including one e-Book. Most of them were well known and highly rated which is why I borrowed them instead of buying.  The higher ratings by others also shows what I always say - my gem may be your stinker.   I am sure that the reason I rated the books lower than many others was because of the hype.   Maybe I expected too much.   But a month of average reads is better than a month of no books.   I hope you had a great November and were able to reflect on the blessings of you life.   As we go into the Christmas season I pray that the blessings will continue and you will be able to enjoy the plea...

   I read 6 books in the month of October.   That's how my reading goes - in ebbs and flows.   Part of it is life happens.   It was a busy month as we were able to take a long weekend for a runaway to Eureka Springs, Arkansas.   That was followed by my hosting Book Club, our granddaughter (and her mom and dad) from California here and a trip to Oxford, Mississippi to spend some time with a good friend and go see LSU on the football field.   All fun things and I was still able to work some good books in. I didn't plan it this way, but for the spooky month of October, all of my books were what I would call some form of mystery.   I would not say any of them were scary, but they all had some form of murder and good and bad guys and it was up to the reader to try to determine which was which.    Something else that was different this month, 2 of the books I read were from the library.   I grew up going...

September was a great month reading wise.   I finished 10 books and only had one stinker.   The rest were all average of above.   This month also found me going to the library.   I haven't been in a while and it was nice to browse the stacks and bring a few home.   Two of the books I read this month were from that pile, plus one E-book I checked out too. A little later than normal, thanks in part to Ida.   When the internet went out, I couldn't get online.  After that I took my time getting back to my reviews.   It was a decent reading month in August though.   It was mostly 4 ⭐books.  As usual I read a wide range of genres.  The only book that I really struggled with was the non-fiction one, "The Vinyl Frontier".   It was a little technical in parts and as can be in a non-fiction book dry.   But I still found it interesting enough to finish.   I hope you all had a good reading month.   As always, I welcome any recommendations to add to my bulging shelves.  Here's my thoughts for the month -    The Vinyl Frontier: The Story of the Voyager Golden Record  by Jonathan Scott In 1977, a team from different walks of life, led by Carl Sagan developed a 90 minute golden record to go to outer space on NASA's Voyager probe.   This is...

July brought 10 physical books read and 3 audio books listened to into my life.   Overall it was a really good month.  It was top heavy with 4 and 5 star books - 8 in all.   Of the remaining 5, 3 were 3 stars which is still good in my eyes.  I had 2 sinking to 2 stars, "Bonnie" and "Fourth of July Creek".  It's not the books were stinkers, they just weren't for me.  Picking a top of the top is a hard call but I'd have to say "Every Now and Then".  There was something about that story that grabbed me in.   Overall though there's not a one that I would say "Don't waste your time."   I do have a question for you - Do you listen to audio books?   I know it can be a "hot topic" as to whether that is considered reading or not.   I personally don't say that I read it, because in my mind, I wasn't the reader.   But I don't care if others use that term.   I find value in listening to a story....
