June 2021 Books Read

June was a busy month.   It started off with celebrating my birthday.   That was followed by a good friend visiting for a few days and then a few days away from home for baseball and exploring.   That resulted in fewer books being read this month - a total of 8. I spanned some different genres this month - suspense, psychological thriller, historical fiction, fantasy and a romcom of sorts.    My favorite was "Hour of the Witch" by Chris Bohjalian.   (You can tell he's one of my favorite authors in that I now know how to spell his last name. 😀)  A close second was my Book Club book - "The Four Winds" by Kristin Hannah.   She has such a great way of making you exist in whatever story you are reading.   My disappointment was "Tamarack County" by William Kent Krueger.   It was a good book, just didn't live up to what I'm use to with a Cork story.    Here's my short impressions -  Someone We ...

May 2021 Books Read

Twelve books in the month of May.   Three out of the park ones - "Tricksters Point", "Molina" and "Anxious People".  Three were above average - "Somerset", "The Identicals" and "Celestial Navigation".  Two were stinkers to me - "The Bookstore on the Beach" and "The Breakdown"   The other four were average reads.   Which average and above are worth reading to me.   I will note that every book I read this month was rated on Goodreads as 3.78 stars or above with 9 of them in the 4 star and above range so as I've often said - my stinkers may be your favorite.    May was a good month as I had a great visit with my bestie and got to travel to California to spend time with our granddaughter, daughter and son-in-law.  I hope you all had a good month and that June has started out with a good book and good friends.   "Somerset" by Leila Meacham   This covers 150 years of the Toliver, Warwick and Dumonts...

April 2021 - Books Read

N ine books for April.   The best to me was "Midwives" by Chris Bohjalian.   In fact it was my only 5 star read this month.   The only one I read that I wouldn't recommend was "Baseball Life Advice."  I've also included a review of the Bible study book I completed this month.   I'm not including it in the count, but wanted to let those of you who may be interested in a good study book know about it.    Once again, I hope you all had a great month of reading.  If you've read any of these books I would love to hear your opinions on them.  And as always I am always happy to add to Mount To Be Read.     "Good Hope Road" by Lisa Wingate The story of how a devastating tornado brought a town together and provided healing in many ways.   Surprising friendships formed, spiritual renewal and a realization of what is important in life. This is the second in the Tending Roses series.  It takes place in a ...

March 2021 - Books Read

The month of March ended with 13 books read.   As usual there were many genres.   Thanks to my Book Club I even branched out to one book that I never would have picked on my own - "The Sun Down Motel" - a ghost story of sorts.  I read one "dud" in my view, with all the rest ranging from just below an average read to above.   So another good month.  I had 4 excellent reads - "The Push" - "Three Wishes" - "Vermilion Drift" and "Rush Home Road".   All are very different from each other, all well written and all interesting stories.    As a side note.   I enjoy a physical book more than an e-book.   I usually b...

February 2021 - Books Read

I had a good month of reading in February.   I got 13 books read.   Of those only one was "below average" in my eyes,  "The Turn of the Key", yet it is generally a high rated book.  So don't go by my views on it.   It's hard to pick favorites from this month.   I always like my Cork O'Connor reads - so "Heaven's Keep" would be one.   "Memoirs of an Imaginary Friend" started slow but ended up being one I'd put there along with "The Lost Vintage".   But honestly it was a great month. I read several different genres as I usually do.   This month I will say all of the books delivered a message of one sort or another to me.   In my reviews I sometimes touch a little on those, but sometimes I don't.   The great thing about reading is that it speaks to each of us in different ways.   My lessons, my preferences, my likes and dislikes probably won't match up with yours.  But books o...
