April 2021 - Books Read

N ine books for April.   The best to me was "Midwives" by Chris Bohjalian.   In fact it was my only 5 star read this month.   The only one I read that I wouldn't recommend was "Baseball Life Advice."  I've also included a review of the Bible study book I completed this month.   I'm not including it in the count, but wanted to let those of you who may be interested in a good study book know about it.    Once again, I hope you all had a great month of reading.  If you've read any of these books I would love to hear your opinions on them.  And as always I am always happy to add to Mount To Be Read.     "Good Hope Road" by Lisa Wingate The story of how a devastating tornado brought a town together and provided healing in many ways.   Surprising friendships formed, spiritual renewal and a realization of what is important in life. This is the second in the Tending Roses series.  It takes place in a ...

March 2021 - Books Read

The month of March ended with 13 books read.   As usual there were many genres.   Thanks to my Book Club I even branched out to one book that I never would have picked on my own - "The Sun Down Motel" - a ghost story of sorts.  I read one "dud" in my view, with all the rest ranging from just below an average read to above.   So another good month.  I had 4 excellent reads - "The Push" - "Three Wishes" - "Vermilion Drift" and "Rush Home Road".   All are very different from each other, all well written and all interesting stories.    As a side note.   I enjoy a physical book more than an e-book.   I usually b...

February 2021 - Books Read

I had a good month of reading in February.   I got 13 books read.   Of those only one was "below average" in my eyes,  "The Turn of the Key", yet it is generally a high rated book.  So don't go by my views on it.   It's hard to pick favorites from this month.   I always like my Cork O'Connor reads - so "Heaven's Keep" would be one.   "Memoirs of an Imaginary Friend" started slow but ended up being one I'd put there along with "The Lost Vintage".   But honestly it was a great month. I read several different genres as I usually do.   This month I will say all of the books delivered a message of one sort or another to me.   In my reviews I sometimes touch a little on those, but sometimes I don't.   The great thing about reading is that it speaks to each of us in different ways.   My lessons, my preferences, my likes and dislikes probably won't match up with yours.  But books o...

January 2021 - Books Read

New year - new restart,  😉  Not sure how long it will last.  I have been posting short reviews of sorts on Goodreads but for my own reminders I'm going to try to post a little more depth here.  So here goes -  "The Book of Evidence" by John Banville                                                                                                  The first book finished in 2021 was not on my favorite list.   This book was nominated for a Booker Award and gets very high reviews overall.   John Banville  is a well known Irish Novelist.   The linked article describes some of how I felt about this book.   He has his own style and likes to use big words as he even admits, through the...

2019 Books Read - September

I got through 9 books in September - including one re-read.  I really enjoyed 2 of them, 1 I wouldn't recommend just because it was too much fluff and the rest were interesting, just not fantastic reads.   So once again, a good month of reading.   I hope you can find one or two that catches your eye. I'm always interested in your impressions of books and welcome any suggestions for my Mount TBR. Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young: The Wild, Definitive Saga of Rock’s Greatest Supergroup by David Browne I picked up this book at Barnes and Noble during the Bookhaul sale.    It was at a good price, I was looking for a different genre than most of my books, and I thought it would be an interesting read. I am a “casual” CSN&Y fan.    I still have the Déjà Vu album, listen to them occasionally on Spotify and like their style music.    I am also a Neil Young fan of sorts.    But I am not a full out fan that knows everything...
